  • Founded in 1972, Tone Commander initially was a major supplier of telephone components to Western Electric and the Bell System. During its first decade in business, the company developed a reputation for designing and manufacturing highly reliable tone and rotary dial intercom units.

  • Following the Bell System divestiture in 1984, which dramatically changed the telecommunications landscape, Tone Commander shifted its focus to servicing the newly created “baby bells,” government agencies, and other industry players.

  • In 1985 Tone Commander developed its “Centrex” line of attendant consoles for businesses, government agencies, universities and other organizations requiring a private branch exchange. Tone Commander’s Centrex product was specifically tailored to meet the needs of the newly expanded telecommunications network in the wake of the Bell System breakup.

  • In 1988, Tone Commander combined its innovative analog product with emerging Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) technology to introduce its first ISDN console. Today, all of Tone Commander’s products are stand-alone consoles that work with all Centrex service network switch types.

  • In 1992, Tone Commander introduced its first Network Termination 1 (NT1) product, which involves equipment located on the customer’s premises, as opposed to a central office. Its complete product line includes stand-alone and card file models with desktop, wall mount and rack mount options.

  • Tone Commander’s most recent NT1 product is the industry’s most versatile, highest density and lowest-cost NT1 solution on the market. It has also combined advancements in its ISDN and NT1 consoles to develop a superior line of ISDN telephones, introduced in 1998.

  • In 2000, Tone Commander launched a joint project with Lucent and AG Communication Systems to develop a line of next-generation Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephones. Its new 7200 Series VoIP phones provide a complete array of Centrex ISDN features.

  • Tone Commander is a leader in E9-1-1 Emergency Awareness Solutions. Its 9140 and 9130 Call Alerting products are the industry's most affordable automatic 911 call-in-progress notification systems.
